Two new faces will be seen at District 95 schools as the board approved employment recommendations Monday during the regular board meeting.

Wendi Fritz was hired as a math teacher at Mayo Middle School, fulfilling the vacancy left by Shana Bradfield who transferred to the high school. Bradfield’s resignation as eighth grade chairperson was also approved.

Paris High School will now be able to offer environmental science as a co-credit course. Marianne Meister was hired to teach the course, with 12 students currently signed up. For the past two years, the district was unable to find a qualified teacher for the class. Meister’s employment was approved on a 6 to 1 vote, with Sue Furnish voting against it.

Board member Mark Isaf expressed thanks to Meister for offering an hour a day to allow the high school to offer another co-credit course. While Meister will be paid for the position, it took the school two years to find someone to fill the spot.

“It’s hard to find people willing to commit to an hour a day,” District 95 superintendent Connie Sutton said following the meeting.

Other co-credit courses, Sociology and Economics I and II taught by Daryl Van Landeghem and Western Civilization, taught by Russ Witmer, were renewed for the 2008-09 school year.

“We are fortunate to have found three very qualified people locally to teach the co-credit courses,” said Sutton.
